Warnings have been coming through on news and social media this week concerning the December update for Samsung devices, with numerous users reporting their devices have been left unusable and told by Samsung that the only option is to hand in the device for a factory reset.  Of course, this means the complete loss of all data stored on the device.

The anguish from users echoes not so much the inability to use the device, but the complete loss of data as a result.

This incident should serve as a reminder to all mobile device users, regardless of manufacturer, to regularly back up your device in its entirety, and especially prior to installing software updates.

Samsung provide several options for backing up your Samsung device, which include:

  • Backup to Samsung Cloud
  • Backup to a Google account
  • Backup to your PC using the Smart Switch app
